arriving at my “summer place” (part 2)

notes from june 4, 2013 …

happiness is .. a now defrosted fridge! ..

I had forgotten how long defrosting those old fridges takes. I started yesterday morning and by 10:30 last night decided “enough for today”. I threw a towel on the floor in front of the fridge and went to bed expecting to hear dropping ice during the night and waking to a mess to clean up.

not so! either the fridge defrosting slept while I slept 🙂 .. or .. once the sun goes down behind the evergreens that border 3 sides of the house the temperature drops sufficiently to slow down the fridge defrosting ! either way .. I woke to no mess whatsoever.

I delayed resuming the defrosting while I went out for my morning coffee & ciggie. and was rewarded .. or winked at .. by a deer wandering along the riverbank!

my relationship with the oven is not going quite as well.

after my initial success with the new fuses .. the oven has once again asserted its choice to not work.

I can manage without the oven to cook. but it would be a wonderful way to take the evening chill off the place. the little baseboard heater is almost a joke.

the good news is that last evening I established a good working relationship with the “main tenant” upstairs. we worked together with him using (from inside my space) the access door to the crawl space to store the winter tires for his truck. we sorted out arrangements for recycling, garbage etc. .. important stuff on an island with no dump and no garbage pick-up! this morning I went out to discover he has moved his broken motorcycle which opens up a lovely open sunny spot on my level of the yard !!!

so I have a fridge that is now cooling back up, bleach in the toilet tank hoping for a clear water flush .. and some flowers to plant. looking like a good day !
